I am not sure if my child is at the right stage of reading for this?
The recipes are designed for absolute beginners through to more established readers. The beginners will need support to ensure they are using sounds accurately and also for you take use the teachable moments to grow their reading.
Step one is a simple assessment. Even if your child is a competent reader, they can still benefit from the structured recipe system and use this to easily develop their cooking skills with simple recipes. So many recipes out there for 'kids' still require extensive adult support.

How do the recipes actually work?
Each recipe comes in three different reading levels. They are visual recipes so use a combination of pictures and carefully selected words based on my extensive time working with and listening to early readers (I spent over 2000 hours working 1:1 as an online reading tutor and 5 years as a primary classroom teacher).
Perfecting phonics for readers who know a few sounds and are working on blending simple cvc words together. Victorious with Vowels for readers who are working on digraphs and fabulously fluent are readers who are securing their phonics knowledge. Oops sorry if that got a bit teacher talk for you there but this is designed to make learning to read effective and purposeful.
On top of all of that each one I test on my own early reader. And anyone who has worked with their own child will know how honest they are if they actually work….
But I am not a teacher. How can I use these recipes to help my child with learning to read?
I have poured hours and hours into creating this method from my time using them in the classroom with reception children (I found one of my original ones recently and wow they have come a long way!) to the time we spend creating them in my own kitchen. Not to mention the hours I have spent listening to children read and teaching daily phonics lessons.
I have taken all this and packaged it up into a recipe you can grab and go with. I colour code sounds to look out for, use the same format each time to make them easy to follow and include adult guidance for each one.
Inside the kit there is also support for helping your child’s reading AND how you can use the recipes.
The goal of them is to take your child from beginner baker to star baker and you to support rather than do all the work.
The recipes do most of the teaching. You are the facilitator who is there to support, teach in the moment when you see fit, get covered in flour and maybe eat something at the end of it.
Do I need to get anything else?
This is a digital product so you will need to either print the recipes out or display them on a tablet.
Oh and of course you will need the ingredients for each recipe. This is NOT a meal subscription.
Is this just for home? I am a teacher or tutor and this would be great for my students. Would it work?
Absolutely. The recipes originally came from the classroom. There is special advice just for groups.
I need vegan or gluten free recipes. Will this work for me?
I recently added versions for gluten-free and vegan. Now, I am not a nutritional expert but have pulled out all the recipes that could work for these diets.
There are 9 vegan recipes and a further 8 that could be made with dairy alternatives.
There are 13 gluten-free with 2 are not edible but do contain flour and also this includes 3 oats recipes.
There is only one recipe that contains meat (if you are looking for the vegetarian option).
If you would like a full list of the recipes for each diet drop me an email at hello@recipeskidscanread.com or DM me on instagram @recipeskidscanread
Do you offer refunds?
As this is an instant access digital product in short, no.
